Sample data and real data

Updated October 4, 2026

How to tell a sample organization, what a sample organization cannot do, and how to apply for your own organization and switch to it to work with your real TikTok Shop data.

Sample organizations

A sample organization has a sample shop and synthetic data. Every shop, partner, case, order, stream and number in it is a sample and unrelated to any real shop. It is for trying the screens before putting in real data.

How to tell

  • In a sample organization, a "Sample data" banner appears at the top of every screen. It cannot be closed while the organization is a sample.
  • Stream reviews and video diagnosis add one line saying the values are samples.
  • An organization connected to a real TikTok Shop shows neither the banner nor sample values. Sample values and real numbers are never mixed in one organization.

What a sample organization cannot do

  • Connect TikTok Shop: a real shop cannot be connected to a sample organization. Starting a connection is refused, and the reason is shown under "Integrations" in organization settings.
  • Market numbers and regulatory updates: shown only to organizations connected to a real TikTok Shop.
  • Supplier offers: Sourcing does not show supplier offers, and you cannot apply.
  • Imports and nightly proposals: nothing is requested or imported from TikTok for the sample shop, and no nightly proposals based on shop data are placed.

Records you create in a sample organization, such as cases and partners, stay in that organization. They do not move to your own organization.

Using real data

A sample organization never turns into real data. To work with your real shop's data, apply for your own organization.

  1. Select "Apply with your organization". It is on the Getting started screen, in the setup list on Today, and in the notice on the Market screen.
  2. The application form opens while you stay signed in. Enter your organization's details and apply.
  3. After you apply, you switch to the new organization, which is under review. For what you can do while waiting for COMSEE's approval, see Getting started.
  4. After approval, connect TikTok Shop to start importing your shop's data.

Switching organizations

Switch between the sample organization and your own from the organization name at the top of the left menu. You can go back to the sample organization at any time.
